The car that initially earned the term ‘hot hatch’ applied a Bosch fuel-injection 1588cc engine to function 110bhp through its entry wheels and the firm and nimble handling ensured all this could be utilized to the limit without issue and lots of huge smiles. The 1781cc engine along with twin round headlamps marked was the phone of the 1982 GTI and remained its trademark until the 2nd era.
